The Harndens

Serving in Columbia with Guidelight

About the Harndens

Dylan and Luz Harnden serve as missionaries in Colombia, South America, ministering to families and children impacted by disability. Their mission is to see Jesus be made much of in the lives of these families in Colombia and the rest of Latin America, reaching out to them with the hope of the gospel and practical help. They seek to train, equip and support the local church with gospel-centered, disability-focused
resources and programs to welcome, love, and serve families experiencing disability who are, by default, outcast and downcast from society. Like Christ, who went to the blind, the lame, the sick, the outcast, and the poor, they seek to embody Him by doing what He did: to proclaim, using words and deeds, the good news of the gospel to this unreached people group.

Ministry Update & Prayer Requests

How has the lord been at work in your ministry this past year?

The Lord has surrounded us with several families who live with disabilities and he has placed us in a close-knit community. Because of His Grace the families around us feel comfortable stopping by our house any day, anytime. This kind of relationship with them helps us not only share about Jesus by word but also by living out the gospel in a tangible way through loving them, serving them and welcoming them into our everyday lives.

God has given Luz the opportunity to host a weekly women’s bible study; it includes five ladies from our neighborhood, two of whom have children with disabilities and another one who experiences physical disability herself.

Dylan invites fathers from the community for coffee at our home. This is a great way to get to know them and have deeper one-on-one conversations. He is also studying the bible with our neighbor who experiences physical disability and uses a wheelchair.

The Lord has been opening doors at several local churches in the town we live in and other towns nearby to make connections and hold disability-focused trainings rooted in the Gospel.

How can we pray for you?

Pray the Lord would continue to guide our steps to meet new families in the community experiencing disability and to point them to Christ -our Hope in life and death.

That God will give us wisdom and guidance for the disability trainings we will be having. Our desire is to see these local churches embrace families impacted by disability by welcoming them, loving them and pointing them to our Savior.

That the Lord would continue to strengthen our relationships with the families around us with the hope they would see Jesus for Who He truly is: Son of God, Son of Man, King, and Glorious Savior!

Pray God would guard and protect our family, and that by His grace we would be a light for the other families in the community who are struggling in their relationships.

how do you hope to see god work in the coming year?

Our hope is to start our respite night ministry with volunteers from the churches attending our disability trainings, and to see this ministry grow for His Glory and for the good of our brothers and sisters who experience disability!

To see the Lord work an awakening in the local church through the biblical disability-focused trainings, to welcome and love families impacted by disabilities to the body of Christ.

We hope to continue to partner with many more local churches here in Colombia so that the Lord’s name would be known and families living with special needs would come to know Christ’s perfect love.
