Thanks so much for sharing the Gospel in regards to approaching and dealing with sin within the Body. I came upon this when googling "community groups + addressing sin", and was exact confirmation of what I'd been hearing the Spirit say. Thanks for the sound teaching and thoughtful explanation.

Dear Phil, Heidi, Ryan, Thad, and Bend Bride of Jesus,
Have found sweetness with our Lord remembering you in our prayers.
Also,
The second verse of: Eternal Father Strong to Save, reminded me of your going...

Here it is:

"Oh Christ, the Lord of hill and plain o'er which our traffic runs amain
by mountain pass or valley low: wherever, Lord, our brethren go,
protect them by Thy guarding hand from every peril on the land. "

Press on beloveds...
love in Jesus,
daniel and katheen of Quilcene

I especially like your section 'Word driven not fad chasing'. A church that God builds will have its foundation on the Word of God and He will add to it as He did in Acts. God bless you!

Hi! My husband and I just moved from Port Angeles to Bend last Sunday night. We have attended IBC for a year or so, in the past. Then we had church in our home for the past year. We desire to fellowship with Bible-believing Christians. We don't care about meeting in a building. We will pray for you. Feel free to email me, and you would be welcome to visit us in our home. God bless you!

Not sure if it's ok to post. We hope to see you all in June. I am not part of this group yet but hope to be. I like the videos but am frustrated they freeze half through all so far. But to Andrew, I do want to point out that nonChristians are not held to our standard is my understanding. So a brother/ sister in church discipline is held to the standard they committed to. As a church reaching out to a lost world, fixing everyone's sin before they fall in love with Jesus and the Good News rarely is successful in my experience. So a person in church discipline is not treated the same.
We all sin which hopefully keeps us humble through this.
When this discipline is done right, I have seen people respond to the tough love.

Okay, so I went and read your study on Matthew 18. If the person ultimately refuses to give up X sin (whatever it is), even when confronted with two or three witnesses, then the next step is to "let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican." This, I would presume, is the point at which the church leaders would remove the man from fellowship.

But I noticed that you mentioned what it means to treat someone as a heathen/tax collector: "Quite simply to treat someone as a gentile or tax collector is to treat them as one who is yet to submit their lives to the Lord in confession of sin and acceptance of the Gospel. This includes a loss of fellowship in Christ and a call for repentance and salvation as often as God places them in our lives." Is this not the same thing as "treating them as someone who is not a Christian"?

Now, I think I want to go back to my first question. When you remove a man from fellowship, aren't you essentially saying “If you continue to sin, we can no longer consider you a Christian.”?
